PETER’S UPDATE WITH PICTURES last-day-before-the-race
Last day before the race…
This morning Renée and I went to collect my race number…after one hour standing in the queue, it was finally our turn to get our race file, to have our equipment checked and to get our number and our race-chip. This electronic chip will allow people to either check on the website about my progress on the trail or to subscribe to an SMS service which will send you regular real-time updates about my passing time through the several checkpoint locations…
To subscribe to the SMS service, you can register through the following link:
http://www.ultratrailmb.com/sms.php?page=sms, don’t forget to enter my race number which is 7003.
Tomorrow morning, at 07.45 am a bus will take us from Chamonix to Courmayeur… so there will be quite some time between my arrival in Courmayeur (somewhere around 0830 am) and the start of the race at 1100 am. It will however allow me to find a good starting position amongst the other 2000 runners, but on the other hand it doesn’t really matter, because I intend to start rather slowly.
The temperature keeps going up and with a peak of 27 degrees Celsius tomorrow it will be a difficult first part of the race, especially for people like me who are not supporting the heat too well, so I will really want to balance my effort the first 7-8 hours of my run, if I make it to the night in one piece, I have a good chance of finishing this little adventure… Whatever is left of today I will be resting and eating…. And I’ll make it an early night hoping that I will be able to sleep a little.
Tomorrow is the day we all have been waiting for, the moment of truth… 26 hours (or less) of sweat, blood and tears… of suffering and pain… but I’m determined and my spirits are high. In advance, and whatever the outcome of the race will be, I would like to thank all of you, for your support and your encouragements that you have given me during all these months.
I especially would like to thank the people who have given a donation to restore the smile of a child somewhere in Malaysia. I am proud of you and you can be proud of yourselves, because you have truly changed the life of a child in an incredibly positive way.
From the bottom of my heart, a sincere ‘Thank you’.
